The word massage refers to a world whose boundaries are yet to be fully reached. A fascinating and rich technique as ancient as man itself, it can involve simple as well as complex procedures which can be pleasant, effective, peculiar, and sometimes even bizarre as they entangle with modern science and millenary curative arts. I have always been attracted by this technique and to my good fortune I was able to explore it thoroughly and with great passion. Qi Gong, Shiatsu and lymphatic massage, energy centres stimulation practices, music therapy and “deep-feeling breathing” technique are methods I have learned and taught over the years which eventually came together thanks to that special glue which is Love, thus contributing to the creation of the sound and energy self-massage technique. What makes its results so incredible is Love for oneself: this is the time to give one’s organs and body dedication, intention and attention for all love one gives oneself will never be wasted.
One can practice the sound massage on a certain body area during the related Perfect Shape lesson; in this case, my advice is to practice the single technique a few times, with a minimum of seven repetitions, that is to fit the repetition in between single exercises which make up the Perfect Shape lesson. Alternatively, one can enjoy a full regenerating sound self-massage session by practising all techniques described below, each one for three times, as if “proceeding along the body routes”. As a matter of fact, the sound self-massage techniques can be used anytime according to one’s needs and body’s sensations.
Hands contain a great amount of energy which often gets wasted because we are unaware of it. Hands can create and also destroy and since each of us, consciously or unconsciously, holds his/her own life in her/his own hands, then each of us must “take side”… It is easy to learn how to use hands to produce beneficial heat to apply to our body… and this seems already a good beginning!
Self-massage techniques described in this chapter can be applied with or without the voice back-up but best results are achieved by the complete version. We know that our voice can induce a vibratory resonance in our organs, thus stimulating a better functioning of the organs themselves and their related systems. So, thanks to hands’ heat, working from outside, and voice’s vibrations, working from the inside, the organs targeted by the sound massage resonate accordingly. If the use of voice is impeded, good results can be achieved all the same by the use of simple self-massage.
Sound self-massage implies the applications of hands as described in each section and the production of sounds, like vowels I-E-O-A-U and consonant M and their variable combinations, as we slowly breathe out. In order to get maximum results we use medium to acute, central and medium-grave tones, in accordance to the body area involved. Do not worry, these techniques are actually very simple to apply so you are not required to be an expert musician or a singer.

This is a specific music program support to self-massage technique which works on various levels.
Compositions were chosen on the basis of certain criteria and for specific purposes:
With regards to point 2), high consideration has been given to the valuable studies by Marie-Louise Aucher in the treaty “L’Homme Sonore” and to her detailed “sound” mapping of human skeletal system.
With regards to some aspects involving the emotional dimension, a free interpretation of massage movements dynamics have led to a classification of the specific character of exercises into relaxing, toning, slow, fast, static, and dynamic.
The length and rhythm of the pieces have taken into account the standard execution of the self-massage complete sequence as created by Caterina Germani.
The structural characteristics of the pieces make this selection ideal also to be used with a Perfect Shape lesson, especially in combination with the “maintenance” one which lasts about 50 minutes.
